This is terrible news… “Some of the musicians who were supposed to play at the Roswell UFO Festival in New Mexico, including artists Billy Ray Cyrus and Phil Vassar, will no longer be involved,” reports RTTNews.com. Please, no, not Billy Ray! “The main reason for the cancellations, according to festival chairwoman Renne Roach, is the way the event is being funded.”
“Since the city’s decision to examine the allocation of lodger’s tax funds to fund future UFO festivals, there have been disagreements between the organizers and a few of the musicians set to perform at the festival,” reports RTTNews.com.
“In May, Mayor Del Jurney assured the people and artists involved in the event that he wanted to make sure the funds were being spent appropriately. He claimed that he never told anyone the city didn’t want to hold the festival,” reports RTTNews.com. “The budget for the 2010 event is $150,000 for the UFO Festival Committee to use as they wish.”
“Calls worldwide are being made to the event’s organizers, with people asking if the festival is still on. Even with the recent cancellations from artists, it has been confirmed that the Roswell UFO will continue on as scheduled, running June 30 to July 5.”
