Oren Peli’s new film, 'Area 51'
“Area 51,” the next film from Oren Peli, who directed the horror hit “Paranormal Activity,” has been acquired for distribution in the United States by Paramount Pictures, the studio said Sunday.
A multi-million dollar hit was made of “Paranormal Activity” using unconventional marketing tactics, including a Web campaign urging fans to “demand” the film before it was shown. That movie has taken in about $107.1 million at the domestic box office.
From what we’ve read, Area 51 will focus on three guys—Chris, who is into astronomy and aliens, Paul, a skeptic, and Rob, a follower of anything. There’s also a woman named Natalie whose father claims he was abducted by aliens. The guys are on a trip to Vegas and arrange a meeting with a former Area 51 employee. The three eventually attempt breaking into the facility to get video evidence of extraterrestrial contact.
