President Jimmy Carter: In 1969, Carter was standing outside a Lions Club in Georgia when he noticed a red and green ball about the size of the moon bobbing in the night sky. He said later, “I don’t laugh at people any more when they say they’ve seen UFOs. I’ve seen one myself.”
President Ronald Reagan: While flying aboard the gubernatorial jet in 1974, Reagan and his pilot, Bill Paynter, described seeing a bright white light over Bakersfield, Calif., that soon elongated and flew away at a “fantastic speed,” in the pilot’s words. Reagan later recounted the incident to a Wall Street Journal reporter.
Sen. Richard Russell: Russell, who was chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the 1950s and ’60s, was on a fact-finding mission in the Soviet Union when he spotted a disc-shaped object taking off from the ground near some railroad tracks. An interpreter and aide also saw the UFO.
Clyde Tombaugh: Tombaugh, the astronomer who discovered Pluto in 1930, claimed to see several rectangle-shaped windows of greenish-yellow light while he was working in Las Cruces, N.M. on Aug. 20, 1949. Over the course of his career, he also admitted to seeing green fireballs in the sky over New Mexico.
Kary Mullis: This famous American biochemist who is responsible for pioneering advances in genetic research claims to have been accosted by a talking, glowing raccoon while at his northern California cabin. Olivia Newton John: Revealed she is fascinated with aliens after a close encounter with a UFO as a teenager. The ‘Grease’ actress claims she spotted a flying silver object which blazed across the sky at “amazing speeds” when she was a teenager. Olivia is convinced most British people share her belief in the existence of alien life. Describing her otherworldly encounter, the 60-year-old actress told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I have seen one when I was very young. It was unidentified and it was flying – It’s true that I’m intrigued by them. I have seen so many shifts in belief systems over the years – In England most people now think UFOs are possible. Twenty years ago, how many people would have thought that?”
