Ghost train prepares to leave
This year, the Haunted Hocking Ghost Express in Nelsonville, OH will feature stories of local ghosts that still haunt the Hocking Hills. Paranormal Daily News went for a ride Saturday, August 8th. Read more about our disappointing experience.
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway takes a leisurely tour back in time along the Hocking River and through the beautiful rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio. The railway was founded in 1972 and trains are run by volunteers whose mission is the preservation, restoration and operation of the historic railroad.
Brave riders can make reservations for the Ghost Trains which will depart at 8 p.m. on August 8th, September 12th, and October 10th and 17th, 2009. To reserve a seat call 800-967-7834.
Rumor has it the train will be robbed on Saturday, September 19th, when a group of bandits on horseback take over the train. Don’t worry the robbers are friendly and play money will be handed out to everyone on board before the ‘robbery’ to appease the robbers as they board the train. Advance reservations are recommended for this very popular train.
Review: We went Saturday, August 8th – Our advice, save your money; the cost is $17 per adult and we’d like at least half of our money back. This is a ‘scenic’ tour with pre-recorded ghost stories playing over a speaker system. The idea is cool; however, the interior lights were on the entire time, this killed any hope of an enjoyable time for us. Each train has one very bright ceiling light above every single seat – Ghost stories are never creepy with bright lights. Additionally, the lights not only took the spook away from the spooky stories, but masked everything you passed by outside of the train during the last 40-minutes of the ride; you couldn’t see outside of the train car… So, the ride was no longer a ‘scenic” train ride or a ‘haunted’ train ride, all thanks to the bright lights above everyone’s head. Did we mention that we would like our money back for the last half of the ride? On a positive note, the staff was very polite, friendly and dressed in uniform.
