“Rumors have long stood that the old Summit Elementary School in Amarillo is haunted and home to ghosts of long-ago murders – People show up looking for ghosts and wind up finding a ride in the back of a squad car,” write David Pittman for Amarillo.com.
“While break-ins at the school are not uncommon by thrill-seekers looking to catch paranormal activity, Amarillo police say the problem has increased in recent weeks,” reports Pittman
“APD officers have … walked through the building many times during the night and have never seen evidence of supernatural activity,” an Amarillo police statement said Friday.
Pittman found that, “Bloggers and other Internet chatter have spread tall tales of harrowing, haunted activity in the building. One tale claims four boys attending Summit fell victim to the murderous ways of a janitor who cornered them in the boiler room. Creative imaginations say voices can be heard in the darkened hallways of the building.”
Paranormal Daily News’ take: Some of our readers live in locations where there are very few places to investigate, so they seek out abandoned locations. If you didn’t get permission to investigate the location you’ve got to understand that you’re breaking the law.

When I first moved here from California about 12 yrs ago my new friends took me to summit school. We parked in the back by the play ground. My friends were trying to convince me to go investigate with them but I was to scared to. So I stayed in the car while they went in through the roof of the school. And while I was in the car waiting for them to come back I started noticing that the merry-go-round started turning and the swings started swinging. I was totally freaked out. I started honking for my friends to come back and while I was doing so I seen floating balls of shadows go towards the school. Years later when I went back with my friends I seen that the merry-go-round and swings were removed.
I have lived in this neighborhood for 9 years and since then i have gone to summit pretty much every day to investigate. The first time i went it was at night and i was with my family and some friends. They were all older so they decided to get on the roof and search the school. I had to stay in the car mainly because i was 6, but i was also terribly frightened by the school. All the people that had went inside were screaming and i had no idea why. All i know is that i had to roll up the windows and hide. Suddenly, everybody started heading back to the car freaked out and i had no idea what to think. About three years later, my cousins and i decided to go up to the school and try to get in. As we walked past a window in the back close to where the ally was, we looked inside an open part of the window and there was some man’s face there kind of burnt like Freddy Kreuger but i knew it wasn’t. We were all terrified and took off back to my house. I never felt fear so strong until that day. I have been there recently and the place still gives me the creeps, but i still want to investigate.
