'UFO' The Movie is under development
Visual effects man Matthew Gratzner (The Mummy: TotDE and Hancock, among many others) is set to direct the feature film version of the 1970s Gerry Anderson TV show, UFO.
Variety also reports that Gratzner’s studio has begun pre-production on the movie, and will use the resulting concept work to shop around for financiers.
The story will follow the series’ premise, with a secret organization battling alien infiltrators who have been kidnapping and killing humans for years to use the body parts to replace their own dying bits.
The alien fighters, SHADO (Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organization), were housed under a Hollywood studio.
UFO was the first Anderson series to use real people instead of puppets. Prior to that, his “Supermarionation” series like Thunderbirds, Stingray and Fireball XL-5 had fired the imaginations of millions of little boys the world over (including this writer).
